Percussionist Matthew Keegan will make the music groove. As a native of New Orleans,Matthew’s playing is a melting pot, or a gumbo, of instruments and world music. He recentlyreceived a Master of Music from the University of Southern Mississippi. While at USM,Matthew focused on jazz theory, arranging for solo vibraphone, mallet percussion, percussion arranging and composition, arranging music for the front ensemble of the Pride of MississippiMarching Band, teaching private lessons, and performing.
In 2021, Matthew was featured as a vibraphonist on Johnny Falstaff’s album, Lost in the City Lights, on the track Stars. Matthew is honored to have studied with rudimental drumming legend, Marty Hurley, who was inducted into the Drum Corps International Hall of Fame in 2012. His real-world experience from the bandstand, paired with his academic studies, give Matthew a holistic perspective of percussion and its role in music. Matthew is excited to share his knowledge and passion for percussion to his students.
